Once again, the PNW is on!

But it’s still dry in the south...

Current situation

Breaking news: we have just updated out new international sites! Through a massive overhaul, we are hoping you can score powder even better (and deeper of course). Through the new wepowder.com you’ll find all relevant information and as an added bonus, you can even do your own analysis on the same sources we use. We hope you like it and would love to hear your feedback (send a mail to feedback@wepowder.com).

In the mean time we have once again seen snow in the PNW. After two weeks of snowfall another 6-14 inches were added to the not so bad totals of places like Baker (120 inches) and Bachelor (100 inches). This brings the situation in line with a moderate La Nina with above average snowfall for the PNW and drought in the south. The best cover can be found in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and BC.

Short term

Fortunately, today it’ll snow in Utah and Colorado. The storm that came rolling in yesterday and today is brining 5-10 inches of fresh on average, but are still minor compared to the amounts we’ve last season. On the other hand, the east coast is about to see quite nice amounts of fresh. This weekend we will be seeing the most snowfall in the east.

This won’t happen if the storm in the PNW arrives sooner than expected. Currently, the models expect this to pass on Sunday and Monday, bringing cold temperatures and 1-3ft of fresh in the Cascades. Then on Sunday and Monday this storm will move over BC, bringing 5-18 inches of fresh, followed by Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado on Tuesday and Wednesday with 5-14 inches. California will keep it dry.

Powder regions: Colorado North, Utah, Rocky Mountains Central, Rocky Mountains North, Pre Alpine Central, Pre Alpine North, Pacific South West (North), Pacific North West (South), Pacific North West (North), Coastal B.C. & Northern Appalachians.

Long term

On Wednesday a new storm will arrive in the PNW. This will bring warmer air, making the snow line rise to 4000ft. The precipitation will be abundant, with 3 to 5, locally even up to 7ft of fresh above 4000ft. Exact details will follow early next week as we know more. However, we can already tell you California remains dry...

Long term powder indication: North-West Coastal Range & Northern Rockies.

Powder Advice

If you are looking for powder, head out to the PNW, but with 24 hours of bluebird already gone you’ll be searching for untracked pow (at least inbounds). For that, you might be better of in Colorado and maybe even the Ice Coast, which will see snowfall throughout the weekend. As of Sunday you’ll need to be back in the Cascades and on Monday you’ll be very glad those weekend warriors are gone as it will be ON in the Canadian Rockies.
